Look for patterns, not one clue. A review is more suspicious if several red flags show up together:
- Reviewer history: mostly 5-star reviews, lots of reviews in a short time, or the same style of wording across unrelated products
- Timing: a burst of glowing reviews in a day or two, especially on a product that was quiet before
- Language: generic praise, repeated product keywords, or marketing-style wording with little real use detail
- Media: photos or videos that feel promotional instead of like normal customer use
Also check for verified purchase and read the 1- and 2-star reviews. A few bad reviews can reveal the real tradeoffs.
Tools like ReviewMeta and Fakespot can help spot suspicious patterns, but treat them as hints, not proof. Amazon does allow Vine reviews, so a polished review is not automatically paid. The safest rule: if several red flags line up, be cautious and check the current price before buying.
