QUESTION
Is Costco worth it for a single person?
Costco can be worth it for a single person, but only if you’ll reliably use a few high-savings categories: gas, prescriptions, tires, alcohol where allowed, rotisserie chicken/prepared foods, frozen items, coffee, paper goods, and household basics. If you live close to a warehouse and can avoid impulse bulk buys, the membership can pay for itself. If you have limited storage, don’t drive much, or mostly buy fresh food for one, it’s often not worth it.
Quick rule: if Costco would save you about $5–$6 per month versus your current stores, a basic membership is roughly break-even. If not, skip it or split shopping with a household/friend where membership rules allow.
