QUESTION
Is the Amazon Appstore still useful on Android?
Mostly not for regular Android phones and tablets. Amazon discontinued the Amazon Appstore on non-Amazon Android devices on August 20, 2025, so in 2026 it is no longer a useful general-purpose app store for typical Android users.
If you already installed apps from it, some may still open, but you should not count on updates, compatibility, purchases, or long-term access working normally. For most Android phones and tablets, Google Play is the safer default, and an app’s official website is the better fallback when it is not on Google Play.
The main exception is Amazon-controlled devices, such as Fire tablets and Fire TV devices, where Amazon’s app ecosystem can still matter. But for general Android use outside Amazon’s own devices, the Amazon Appstore is of very limited usefulness.
