QUESTION
Should I buy a projector instead of a TV?
Buy a projector instead of a TV only if your main goal is a huge, cinematic screen and you can control the room lighting. For most people, a TV is still the better everyday choice because it is easier to use, brighter in daytime, better for casual viewing, and usually simpler to set up.
My practical rule:
- Choose a TV if you watch during the day, watch sports/news/casual shows often, want low hassle, or sit in a bright living room.
- Choose a projector if you mostly watch movies at night, want a 100–120 inch image, have wall/screen space, and are willing to manage lighting, placement, sound, and setup.
- Consider both if you can: a regular TV for everyday/daytime use and a projector for movie nights is often the best compromise.
