QUESTION
Should I buy a projector or TV?
For most people, a TV is the more practical and better-performing choice. Modern TVs usually give you brighter images, stronger contrast, and a simpler setup that works well in more lighting conditions.
A projector is still the better pick if you want the most cinematic feel with a very large image, especially in a dedicated room you can keep dark, or if you like a screen that can be put away when not in use.
Quick decision guide:
- Choose a TV if: you watch in a room with windows or ambient light, want sharp HDR performance, prefer easy plug-and-play setup, or care about gaming responsiveness.
- Choose a projector if: you’re building a light-controlled home theater, want a screen size around 100 inches or larger, or want a setup that can disappear when you’re done.
If you’re considering an ultra-large TV instead of a projector, double-check the size, weight, and delivery/installation requirements before buying. Very large TVs can be a great option, but they may be heavy and awkward to move through stairs or tight hallways.
