Should I buy a used Subaru Baja if I find one cheap?

A used Subaru Baja is usually worth buying only if the price is low enough to cover surprises. For a decent driver-quality truck, expect about $7,000–$12,000 for a Baja Sport and $10,000–$18,000 for a Baja XT. Rough, high-mileage, or rusty examples can dip to $3,000–$6,000, while clean, low-mileage, collectible examples can reach $15,000–$25,000+.

If it’s “cheap,” that can be a good sign only if the chassis is solid and maintenance is documented. The biggest money sinks are rust, head gasket or cooling issues on the 2.5L, and turbo-related neglect on XT models. Check sold/completed listings before buying, because Baja prices move a lot with condition, mileage, rust, and trim.

Rule of thumb: buy a cheap Baja if it’s structurally clean and priced like an older Subaru that may need repairs; walk away if the underside is rusty, overheating, leaking badly, or has no records.
