For hockey, I’d lean Hisense U8N overall — but not in every single case.

Hockey tends to benefit from high brightness, strong color, and good motion handling on the bright ice surface. The U8N is generally the better fit if you want a punchier, more vivid picture and stronger overall brightness.

That said, I can’t honestly say it’s the superior choice in all cases. The TCL QM7 is still a very solid Mini-LED TV, and depending on your room, seating, and the exact sizes/configurations you’re comparing, it may be the better value or a better match for your setup.

One important caveat: panel type can vary by size. For example, some U8N sizes use an ADS Pro panel, which can offer wider viewing angles, while others may use a VA panel, which usually has better contrast but narrower viewing angles. Exact panel behavior can also vary by size and region.

So the short version is: pick the Hisense U8N if hockey is a top priority, especially if you want the brightest, most vibrant picture. Pick the TCL QM7 if you want to save money and still get a strong Mini-LED TV.
