Should I buy a used Samsung NX300 or a modern phone camera?

For most people, a modern smartphone camera is the better buy. It gives you instant sharing, strong computational photography features like Night Mode and HDR, and all-in-one convenience that a used camera usually can’t match.

A used Samsung NX300 makes sense if you specifically want to learn manual photography, enjoy a more tactile shooting experience, or want real optical background blur from an APS-C camera and lens rather than relying on phone portrait processing.

The big caveat is that the NX system is discontinued, so you’re buying into an old ecosystem: lenses and accessories are only available used, and long-term support is limited. Also, on a camera this old, companion apps and wireless features may be unreliable or no longer work well on newer phones and operating systems.

If you just want the best everyday camera with the least hassle, go with the phone. If you want the experience of shooting with a dedicated camera and don’t mind the older system, the NX300 can still be fun and capable. Since camera app and OS compatibility can vary by device and software version, it’s worth checking current app support before buying.
