That’s very common — it’s basically cart abandonment. People do this for a mix of practical and psychological reasons:
- The cart becomes a temporary bookmark. You may be saving items while you compare sizes, colors, prices, or alternatives.
- The total feels different at checkout. Shipping, taxes, and other fees can make the final price feel higher than expected, which stops the purchase.
- You’re not fully decided yet. Putting something in the cart can feel like a “maybe” rather than a commitment.
- You enjoy browsing more than buying. Shopping can be satisfying on its own, even if you never finish checkout.
- You may be waiting for a better deal. Some people leave items in the cart and come back later if there’s a discount or they change their mind.
If this happens a lot, it usually means one of three things: you don’t need the item, the total is too expensive, or you’re still comparing options. A simple fix is to wait a day before checking out and ask, “Would I still want this if it cost more than I expected?”
