Why does my cat sit on the printer when it turns on?

Cats often sit on a printer when it turns on because the printer becomes interesting to them: it may give off some warmth, it makes sounds and vibrations, and the moving parts can catch their attention. If your cat is used to getting a reaction when you use the printer, they may also be trying to get your attention. In some homes, the printer’s location can be part of the appeal too, since it may be on a desk or other elevated spot that feels like a lookout.

If it’s causing paper jams or you’re worried about your cat getting pinched or knocking parts loose, try giving them a more appealing nearby spot, like a cat bed or warm mat, and block access to the printer when you’re not using it. Keeping trays closed and covering the printer can also help.
