QUESTION
Why does my Epson EcoTank ET-2850 print faded colors?
Faded colors on an Epson EcoTank ET-2850 are commonly caused by partially clogged printhead nozzles, low ink, or print settings that don’t match the paper/media. Less often, the issue can also come from air in the ink path or a nozzle pattern that isn’t firing evenly.
Things to check
-
Check the ink levels directly
Don’t rely only on the software estimate. Look at the front tanks and make sure each color is above the lower fill line. A tank can sometimes be low enough to affect print quality even if the printer hasn’t warned you yet. -
Run a nozzle check
Print a nozzle check pattern. If you see missing lines or gaps in any color, run a head cleaning and test again. -
Review print settings
Make sure the paper type in the driver matches the paper you loaded. Draft mode, grayscale, or a lower-quality setting can also make colors look washed out. -
If cleaning doesn’t help
Try another standard cleaning cycle later, or use a deeper cleaning option only as a last resort, since it uses much more ink than a normal cleaning.
If the printer still prints faded after checking ink, settings, and nozzle condition, the printhead may need service.
