People think the moon landing was fake because a few photos and videos look suspicious if you don’t know the science, and those images are easy to share and repeat.

The biggest “proofs” people point to are:

  • The flag “waving” — it was on a pole with a horizontal rod, and it kept moving after being planted.
  • No stars in photos — the camera was set for the bright lunar surface, so faint stars didn’t show up.
  • Odd shadows — uneven ground and reflected light make shadows look strange.
  • Van Allen belts — Apollo crossed them quickly, and shielding kept radiation exposure low.
  • No crater under the lander — the engine was throttled down near touchdown, and exhaust spread out in a vacuum.

The idea also grew in the 1970s, when distrust of government was high after Vietnam and Watergate. In reality, the evidence for the landing is huge: moon rocks, thousands of photos, radio and radar tracking, and independent confirmation even from the Soviet Union.
