Will Guitar Hero ever come back?

Maybe — but nothing official has been announced.

A Guitar Hero comeback is possible, and there are a few reasons people think it could happen someday: Microsoft now owns Activision Blizzard, which holds the Guitar Hero IP, and there’s still visible interest in rhythm games. Newer guitar controllers like the PDP Riffmaster also show that there’s an audience for plastic-instrument play.

That said, none of that is confirmation that a new Guitar Hero is actually in development. Even if executives have hinted at reviving classic Activision franchises or suggested that Microsoft’s resources could make it possible, those comments are still not the same as an official announcement. Likewise, hardware like the Riffmaster supports modern rhythm-game play generally, but it doesn’t prove a Guitar Hero project is underway.
